Why do pigment spots appear?
The sun’s UV radiation is one of the most common causes of visible skin ageing. Over the years it can appear as pigment spots, freckles and an uneven skin tone.
The changes often show where the skin has had the most sun – the face, hands, décolletage and back. They are usually harmless, but many people find them bothersome. IPL is a gentle way to treat suitable pigmentation without breaking the skin.
What do we treat?
Sun spots
Reduces pigmentation caused by sun exposure.
Age spots
Helps create a clearer, more even-looking skin tone.
Uneven pigmentation
Reduces visible differences in skin tone.
Multiple treatment areas
Face, neck, décolletage, arms, hands and back.
How does IPL work on pigment spots?
IPL light is absorbed by pigment in the skin. After treatment, the treated spots usually darken temporarily before the pigment gradually sheds, leaving a more even skin tone.
Results develop over the following weeks. The number of treatments depends on the extent of pigmentation and the condition of the skin. Many people notice a visible improvement after the first treatment, especially with clearly defined sun spots.
More than a pigmentation treatment
IPL is not only used to reduce pigment spots. The light also stimulates processes in the skin associated with collagen production.
A course of treatments allows us to work more extensively with skin texture, firmness and radiance.
Pigmentation treatment and skin rejuvenation with IPL use the same technology, but the treatment plan is tailored to the desired result.

Before your consultation
Every pigmentation change is assessed individually, as not all types of pigmentation are suitable for IPL. Please tell us about medications, prescription creams, skincare products and supplements you use, as some can affect light sensitivity and the skin’s response to treatment.

Frequently asked questions
Treatment feels like brief, warm pulses of light against the skin. Anaesthetic is normally not needed.
This is an expected response when pigment absorbs light energy. The spots temporarily darken and then gradually fade as the pigment sheds.
Usually 1–2 treatments for targeted pigment spots. The number depends on the pigmentation and the skin’s response.
Treated sun spots may remain faded for a long time. However, new pigmentation can develop with further sun exposure and natural skin ageing.
IPL requires particular care with sun exposure. Tanned or recently sun-exposed skin should not be treated. We assess when treatment is suitable and provide individual advice.
