Visible Blood Vessels and Rosacea
Effective IPL treatment to reduce visible blood vessels and redness and give the skin a more even tone.
Visible blood vessels around the nose, on the cheeks or elsewhere on the skin are common and can develop for several reasons.
With IPL, we treat both individual superficial blood vessels and more widespread redness, including redness associated with rosacea.

Why choose IPL for visible blood vessels and redness?
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It is a well-established technology that has been used in skin treatments for more than 30 years.
Several concerns can be treated at once
IPL targets both redness and visible blood vessels during the same treatment session.
Treatment tailored to your skin
Unlike traditional lasers, which use a specific wavelength, IPL uses a broad spectrum of light. Different filters and settings allow the treatment to be adapted to your skin type and vascular concerns.
Additional benefits for the skin
When treating widespread redness and rosacea, IPL also stimulates collagen production, helping improve skin texture and firmness. The result is less redness and a more even, firmer and fresher-looking complexion.
Treated blood vessels become less visible or disappear, while vascular reactivity is reduced.
IPL compared with vascular laser
Large treatment areas
IPL treats individual superficial vessels as well as widespread redness across larger areas.
Gentler experience
For suitable indications, IPL is often experienced as more comfortable than some vascular laser treatments.
Multiple skin benefits
Alongside reducing redness and visible vessels, IPL stimulates collagen production and improves skin texture and firmness.
Tailored treatment
Filters and settings are selected according to skin type and vascular changes.
For certain deeper or more specific vascular changes, a targeted vascular laser is a better choice.

I have worked with IPL and skin treatments since 2005 and have treated many different types of vascular concerns and rosacea over the years.
This practical experience helps me assess which changes are suitable for IPL and how to tailor treatment to each person’s skin.
Not all vascular changes are treated in the same way. That is why I begin by examining your skin and assessing what results may be possible.
Which skin concerns can be treated?
IPL can be used for various types of rosacea and superficial blood vessels. Below are examples of common skin concerns that can be treated, with images showing how they may appear.
Rosacea

Persistent redness, especially on the cheeks and nose, sometimes accompanied by visible blood vessels, bumps and spots.
Telangiectasia – superficial vessels

Small red, blue or purple blood vessels visible through the skin, often on the cheeks and around the nose.
Spider angioma

Small vascular changes where fine blood vessels branch out from a central point.
Cherry angioma

Small, red vascular lesions on the skin. I mainly treat small, flat or slightly raised cherry angiomas.
Poikiloderma

A combination of redness, superficial blood vessels and brownish pigmentation, usually on the neck and décolletage.
How does IPL work on blood vessels and redness?
IPL uses a broad spectrum of light. The light energy is absorbed by haemoglobin, the red pigment in the blood, and converted into heat. This heat causes the dilated blood vessels to coagulate and gradually break down.
The body then clears away the treated vessels, reducing redness and giving the skin a more even tone.
Some smaller vessels may disappear quickly, while others fade over the following weeks.
Rosacea – more than treating redness
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that can cause recurring redness, visible blood vessels and sometimes inflamed bumps and spots.
IPL reduces redness and visible vessels, but it does not cure rosacea itself.
An important part of my work is also helping you understand what may aggravate your symptoms. We discuss skincare, diet, stress and other individual factors that may trigger or worsen them.
Over the years, many of my clients have experienced such significant improvement that, in consultation with their doctor, they have been able to stop repeated courses of antibiotics.
With appropriate treatment and a better understanding of your own skin, symptoms can often be kept under good control for a long time.
